Foreign Credit History Portability Tracker: Which Issuers Accept Translated Foreign Credit via Nova Credit
This is a moving target
Nova Credit's country lists are issuer-controlled and change without notice — Scotiabank's own page says so explicitly. Two rows in this matrix (American Express, HSBC UK) were corrected during this build after a live check found the original research undercounted their supported countries; treat any country list here as a snapshot, not a permanent list, and re-verify before publishing anything time-sensitive.

How we verified this
A row is marked confirmed only when an issuer's own page, or Nova Credit's own current page describing an active partnership, names the specific product and the specific translation service. A general ITIN-friendly, no-credit-check, or cash-flow-underwriting claim is a different underwriting path and is not counted as Nova portability, even for issuers who are otherwise newcomer-friendly. Where a claim could be checked live against the issuer's current page, it was — both American Express and HSBC UK are listed with corrected, larger country counts than either original research pass reported, and Chase is listed as confirmed despite one research pass missing it entirely.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between an ITIN-friendly card and a Nova Credit card?
They're different underwriting paths. An ITIN-friendly card (OpenSky, Self, Zolve, and most others in this tracker) generally builds a U.S. credit file from scratch, often with no credit check or a security deposit. A Nova Credit pathway (Chase, American Express, HSBC) instead translates a credit history you already have from another country into a U.S.-equivalent score, so you can skip starting from zero. Most sites that market a card as newcomer-friendly are describing the first path, not the second — very few issuers actually do the second.
Which countries does American Express support through Nova Credit?
As of this check, American Express's own newcomer page lists 12 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The application uses a soft credit inquiry for most of these and a hard inquiry for Brazil, Kenya, Mexico, and Nigeria. You'll still need an SSN or ITIN to apply.
Which countries does HSBC UK support through Nova Credit?
HSBC UK's own FAQ lists the same 12 countries as American Express: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. This is a UK-destination pathway, not a U.S. one — useful if you're moving to the UK, not the U.S.
Does Petal use Nova Credit?
No — and this is directly stated on Nova Credit's own site, not just an absence of evidence. Nova Credit names Petal as a partner that is "not yet using Nova Credit's data" in its credit card application process. Petal's own no-credit-check preapproval process uses bank-account and cash-flow information instead.
Does the May 2026 executive order affect Nova Credit pathways?
Not directly — it doesn't prohibit foreign-credit translation. It does direct more identity, work-authorization, and ITIN scrutiny, which can add manual-review steps to any of these applications even while the published Nova pathway itself stays live. Chase's own Nova page was still live when checked after both the executive order and the June 2026 FinCEN advisory, which is evidence the pathway hadn't been removed as of that date — not a guarantee of approval.
